Series 29: RELATING COLOR & VALUE
Light Side of Color- S29L2
Download
This lesson is S29L2, Light Side of Color of the RELATING COLOR & VALUE Series. Using as her resource an old barn next to a tree, Dianne guides us through an exercise that addresses how the colors of halftones change according to how they are angled against their direct light source. She keeps all areas in shadow untouched to be addressed in Lesson Three.
Color is fluid. Its hue changes according to how much light it is receiving or the quality of shadow covering it. Changing the value of color then, requires more than just adding a lighter or darker value. It requires observing how the hue changes as well. This series breaks this down according to what happens in direct light and in diffused light.
Rather than becoming refined paintings, all these lessons are studies, each showing a different approach for relating color and value. Dianne’s approach to teaching is to show you ways to think about making choices and decisions so that you can work these into your own unique approach to painting.
