Series 34: BALANCE LIKE THE MASTERS
This lesson is S34L2, From the Center Outward of the BALANCE LIKE THE MASTERS Series. Using as her reference boats lined at the edge of a body of water, Dianne adapts Raphael’s method used in his School of Athens, creating a vanishing point at the center of interest as a classical balancing scheme for the composition.
Rather than copy master works outright, one of the best ways to study master painters is to discern how they used a principle, then apply that same method to a study using a totally different subject.
In this Series, from four historical master painters, Dianne discovers in each a principle used to achieve balance, then finds a way to do a study that applies the same method these masters used for applying that principle.
Rather than becoming refined paintings, all these lessons are studies, each showing a different approach for using a composing principle. Dianne’s approach to teaching is to show you ways to think about making choices and decisions so that you can work these into your own unique approach to painting.
