I am an artist, a teacher of art, and a native of rural Georgia. My home since the mid-70s is the northeast Georgia mountains where I live in a small cabin with my two cats, Lizzy and Charley.
During the first 42 years of my career I spent ten years as a college art professor. For the 24 years following, I taught in my own art school. If you are interested in a more detailed outline of my training and experience, go HERE.
But for this introduction, I’m more interested in telling you what I’m doing now, and that is I’m assembling my accumulated knowledge and discoveries into one-hour affordable video tutorials focusing on the composing of painting, I’m live streaming painting workshops every month, and I’m doing weekly Quick Tips on YouTube.
For the video lessons and workshops, I focus on how we compose our paintings. Even though composing too often is given only a nod, I know it to be the most organic part of painting–the real heartbeat of any successful painting. I have discovered that every composing principle is a living, working tool with the potential for taking any work far beyond mere description to exciting levels of self expression. My passion is to share this with you by giving you intelligible and coherent experiences that you can practice and make your own.
I look forward to hearing from you that my teaching has opened for you doors into your own creative uniqueness.
Amazing explanations, so easy to follow and understand.
Hi Dianne, I watch your quick tips every day (yes, truly I do) and I’d like to share with you that your teaching has certainly helped me, I’ve become clearer and very well-informed. I have a similar old-school approach to painting as you. I visit artrenewal.org regularly. I changed from oil to acrylic a few years ago, but all of your tips are applicable no matter what paint is used. I dabble in dry pastels as well and recently, instead of acrylic, I used a gouache underpainting after watching your quick tip, and l love the ease of applying pastel over gouache, thank you for enlightening me about that. I live in Australia with my 2 cats, Tulsi and Tilly, otherwise I would attend your workshops. I’m looking at the very affordable online courses you have and am tossing up which to choose first as I am spoilt for choice! Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know how your youtube video content has helped me and I’d guess thousands of others as well. Thank goodness there are people like you who are keeping traditional art alive. Thank you Dianne.
Much love and gratitude,
Sincerely,
Prema
